Safe Loading of Pallet and Sheet Products

Pallet and sheet metal transport jobs most commonly suffer damage due to incorrect preparation. Proper stacking and securing keep the load in place throughout the journey. The most frequent issues we encounter when working with companies around Samsun Organized Industrial Zone (Tekkeköy) stem from this.
Basic rules for palletized shipments
Heavy boxes go at the bottom, lighter ones on top. The load must not extend beyond the pallet edge. Corners are protected with cardboard edge guards. Stretch film is wrapped at least three times, including the pallet base.
Application for sheet plates and coils
- Sheet packages are placed on wooden blocks, not directly on the ground.
- They are secured with tension straps at least at two points.
- Edge protection profiles are used to prevent straps from cutting into the sheet.
- Sheet coils are fixed with blocks and wedges to prevent rolling.
For box shipments and insurance
Double-wall cardboard, sufficient internal padding, and H-shaped taping significantly reduce the risk of damage. For multiple shipments, number each box; this ensures smooth counting upon delivery. Cargo insurance covers damage during transport, but damage caused by inadequate packaging is usually excluded. Proper packaging is therefore important both for safety and insurance.
Quick check before loading
Check the pallet’s sturdiness before loading begins. A pallet with broken blocks may collapse when lifted by a forklift. Make sure the stretch film wraps the pallet base. A label placed on the top surface indicates the load’s orientation during transfer.
For sheet and profile shipments, placing blocks on the vehicle floor prevents sliding. Securing points are chosen according to the load’s center of gravity. A long load tied at a single point tends to rotate in corners. The two-point rule is therefore decisive in practice.
Safe loading is the cheapest insurance for transport. A few minutes of proper preparation can eliminate all costs of damage and delay. We can determine the right preparation together according to the type of your cargo.
